Apples Pie

best homemade apple pie recipe
Yields: 10 Servings Difficulty: Medium

This apple pie recipe is my favorite since it’s my family recipe that my mom uses to make for special events and holidays. The crust is super buttery and flaky and so easy to make with the Food Processor. I personally like this recipe with granny smith apples which gives the pie tarty flavor you can also use red, gala, or golden apples.

  • Peel your apple skins and remove the cores and cut them into 1/4 thick slices.
  • Place the slices of apple in a large bowl and toss with the lemon juice. Add the sugars, ground cinnamon, cornstarch, and salt, and toss to combine.
  • In a food processor, place the flour, salt, and sugar and process until combined.
  • Add the butter and process for about 10 seconds.
  • Add about 1/4 cup water or milk if you like and process until the pastry just holds together when pinched. Add more water If necessary.
  • Turn the dough onto your work surface and shape into a ball. cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about one hour or until firm.
  • After the dough has chilled sufficiently, divide the dough in half. Take one portion of the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry into a 12-inch circle. Fold the dough in half and gently transfer to a 9-inch pie pan. Brush off any excess flour and trim the edges of the pastry to fit the pie pan.
  • Then remove the second round of pastry and roll it into a 12 inch (30 cm) circle. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • transfer your apple filling into the chilled pie crust. Gently place the top crust over the apples. Tuck any excess pastry under the bottom crust and then pinch the edges using your fingers or a fork. Using a sharp knife, make five- 2-inch cuts from the center of the pie out towards the edge of the pie to allow the steam to escape. Cover the pie with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill the unbaked pie while you preheat the oven.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the oven rack in the middle of the oven and place a baking sheet on the rack before preheating the oven.
  • brush the top of the pie with the egg wash and sprinkle with granulated white sugar or sparkling sugar. Set the pie on the baking sheet and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes or until is golden brown and the juices start to bubble through the cuts.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool for about 30 minutes before cutting. Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or softly whipped cream. Enjoy!
